Italian Parmesan Bread Sticks


Description: Theses are soft garlic bread sticks.. You can get a package of wooden skewers at Walmart for about a dollar. Soak the sticks in water for about 20 minutes before wrapping the bread around them. That will help keep wood from darkening while the bread bakes.

Ingredients:

Mix the following ingredients in a mixer or food processor to blend

2 1/2 cups flour
3 teaspoons Yeast
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon Italian Seasoning (optional)
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon butter, softened

In a separate bowl combine:
1/4 cup hot water
1/2 cup mild
1 egg
Start the mixer of dry ingredients and slowly pour the milk mixture into the feed tube until a ball forms around the blade. Run for thirty seconds to knead. Remove dough from the mixer and knead briefly. Lightly oil a large bowl, place dough i n the bowl ad furn to coat with oi Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about one hour.
Deflate the dough, and turn it our onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough out to a 1/4 inch thickness. Slice into strips. cut strips into lengths that wind up the wooden skewers; Brush tops of bread twists with melted butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Cover and let rise until nearly double, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile preheat oven to 375degrees.

BEFORE SERVING: Turn Broiler on and brush bread sticks with remaining melted butter and Parmesan cheese. Broil just until the cheese starts to turn brown, about 3 to 3 minutes. Serve warm. (great with Alfredo dipping sauce too)
